About
Welcome to EQ Archives, a TAKP-based emulator server! We're a small EQ fan community looking to relive the classic Everquest experience through at least Planes of Power along with some improvements to server rule sets. Our goal is to have an enjoyable playing and raiding experience along with understanding that people may not have the same amount of free time available that we had in the early 2000s. Along those lines we also want loot to be more accessible. The server is managed by a group that has been playing EQ and EQ emulators since Everquest Beta thus we highly value the social aspects of grouping and raiding.
This server was created roughly in October 2023 in an "alpha" phase shortly after TAKP and Project Quarm source code was open sourced. Up until November 27 2023, a very small handful of players registered using the EQA login server described below in the Getting Started section. EQA now uses both EQA and TAKP login servers and quietly transitioned to a more public release during the initial 24 hours.
Ruleset
- Progression server based on TAKP and Project Quarm source code
- New expansions will be released 6 - 12 months after all raid targets in the current expansion have been defeated (TBD)
- World configuration (rules, quests, spawn rates, drop rates) follows closest to TAKP database
- Goal is era accuracy (exceptions noted in custom changes section below)
- Server starts in Kunark Era
- Firiona Vie (FV)-style loot rules (not yet implemented)
- 3 box limit (1-box preferred for social reasons).
- This is enforced by IP and GM logs.
- Player vs Environment (PVE)
- Exp boosts at announced dates
Custom Changes to from EQ Era
- /ooc and /auction are server-wide
- Stonebrunt Mountains and The Warrens are available at server release
- Miragul's Highway is implemented
- Legacy items will remain in game permanently at adjusted rarity
- Keyrings are enabled
Getting started
This server uses the TAKP client available at https://wiki.takp.info/, which is the oldest client used by any EQ emulator as of this writing (~December 2002).
Create a Login Account
1. Go to https://loginserver.eqarchives.com/accounts/ and register for a loginserver account. From there, you can create as many game accounts as you need. 2. Edit the eqhosts.txt file in your game client to contain the following:
[Registration Servers] { "loginserver.eqarchives.com:6999" } [Login Servers] { "loginserver.eqarchives.com:6000" }
Alternatively, use your TAKP forum account. If using that account, your eqhosts.txt should be set to TAKP/Quarm settings:
[Registration Servers] { "loginserver.takproject.net:6999" } [Login Servers] { "loginserver.takproject.net:6000" }
Note: EQA and TAKP loginservers provide unique game accounts so you should use one or the other to access the EQA server.
