Kedge Keep is the most unique dungeon across the three continents of Norrath. The entire ancient city is under water. Adventuring here requires either a magical item that grants the ability to breathe underwater, or the aid of a friendly caster who can grant you enduring breath. The kedge were a highly intelligent fish-like race of people who studied science and magic, but only one has survived. His name is Phinigel Autropos, and he is considered by many to be the most powerful wizard in the world; rivaled only by Al'Kabor. The city is now overrun with sharks and other aquatic creatures that threaten even the most experienced adventurers. A society of beautiful mermaids also live here, formerly on their own accord, but now under the enchantment of Phinigel. Within the ruins, a temple to Prexus the Ocean Lord can be found, which tends to make historians believe the Kedge honored Prexus rather than the Triumvirate of Water.

Phinigel Autropos sought to become the greatest wizard the world had ever seen. He thirsted for knowledge and even created a spell that would allow to leave the water for short periods of time in order to learn from other cultures. After years of study, Phinigel attempted to cast a spell in the Temple of Prexus; one that would show his people his true magnificence. The maelstrom of arcane power that Phinigel unleashsed killed everyone in the city. Historians believe that the power summoned by Phinigel was that of Prexus himself, and the power was unbearable for mortal souls. Phinigel, somehow surviving the blast, retreated to the depths of the city. Over the decades, Phinigel's guilt turned to rage. Adventurers of many types now search for him, as he holds many powerful artifacts.

Dangers

Because the entire keep is submerged in the depths of Dagnor's Cauldron, one must enact an enchantment that will allow survival for long periods of time without the need for air (Enduring Breath or Breath of the Dead). Without this ability, granted through enchanted items and the spells of a skilled arcanist, one will surely perish within minutes of entering the dungeon.

Benefits

This zone has the distinction of having the least occupants at any given time of any zone in the game. That, to me, means that the hunting here is fine. There will be no trains that you don't create. There will be no idiots begging for some change. There are no lines for any of the creatures, and you can hunt whenever you want. You can actually feel like explorers, and that you're seeing things that very few people in the game have ever seen. That's probably the single biggest benefit of the zone.

There is also great treasure to be gained by hunting here, including many powerful items that you've likely never even heard of, much less heard auctioned off at the bazaar. Many of the monsters drop incredible loot in the form of gems. Rare spawns are clustered so that taking on an area easily leads to the ability to gather several unique items per trip.

Traveling To and From

There is one way to get to Kedge Keep, and that is by swimming down through the waters at the southern tip of the lake in Dagnor's Cauldron to the broken entrance hidden in the depths.
