City of Mist

Safe/Evac Spot

28, -734 (Zone line to Emerald Jungle)

Dangers

The city is divided up into several areas. The front is the yard where many random creatures appear. Further in is the city itself, with buildings that have multiple levels. The deepest part of the zone is actually the floating towers, which are connected by narrow, broken walkways. Care must be taken travelling between them because there are gaps in the stone that are easy to drop through if you aren't coordinated enough to jump and clear them.

The Black Reavers will spawn new creatures many times after you kill them for a random number of spawns. At some point, the Lord may spawn out of this.

The names of the mobs in this zone are generally a good indicator of their difficulty. Here are the rankings:

  • Ghosts: shadow/apparition/phantom/wraith
  • Golems: haze/vapor/fog/army/mist
  • Skeletons: spurbone/plaguebone/greater spurbone/greater plaguebone/greater warbone

The goos can spawn in a variety of level ranges regardless of where they are found.

The Captain of the Guard can spawn in place of most mobs in the east stables and atrium.

The spectral courier can spawn in place of many mobs in the west stables.

The army behemoths can spawn in place of many mobs near the moat.

Almost any mob in the zone can drop zone-specific magical weapons, and almost any mob (maybe any mob?) can drop 5 out of the 6 pages needed for the Shaman Epic Quest. Additionally, many mobs drop ruined scale armor pieces as well as vendor jewelry and the occasional expensive gem.

Benefits

Melee classes are able to be bound here, which is good, and can also be bound now in nearby Field of Bone. It is also a good place to bind when hunting in the surrounding areas. There is also a nearby evac point arrival in Emerald Jungle.

Much of the loot that appears here drops off of any creature within the zone. This means that you don't need to camp one specific area in order to get specific items, they will appear off of anything. That being said, most of the loot appears to be quite rare. On rare occasion you will even see a creature with two weapon drops.

Traveling To and From

The City of Mist can be reached by entering it from the Emerald Jungle, with the entrance found at 310, -1960.

Foraged Items

Lore

The City of Mist, formerly known as Torsis, was the richest trade city Kunark had ever seen. Built by Lord Rak`Ashiir, it featured bustling bazaars, vibrant festivals, and devout faithfulness to the church of Cazic-Thule. Lord Rak`Ashiir's wife, Queen Neh`Ashiir was instrumental to much of his early success. They soon started a family with the birth of a daughter, however despite the lavish lifestyle, her husband's politics would soon have a toll on their relationship.

There was a festival that Lord Rak`Ashiir hosted to appoint another high priest into the Cazic-Thule clergy. The festival would also include the High Scale, which was an order of knights that would attend the event to present and judge various contents of skill in arms. Once knight in particular that was present at this festival was named Kirn. Kirn may not have been the mightiest of knights but he certainly had a successful track record on the battlefield. He also had quite the controversial reputation amongst the high scale. Traditionally it wasn't uncommon for knights of the High Scale to practice complete celibacy. However, Kirn would convince the public that females played an integral role in the religious crusade and that celibacy while it still did have a purpose in divinity, non-celibacy still had equal important within the church.

The Queen found Kirn's presence and energy to be quite attractive and the two would have a secret relationship behind the back of Lord Rak`Ashiir. In one instance, the head housekeeper found Kirn's High Scale Icon left behind in the royal chambers while Lord Rak`Ashiir was away on a journey. The Queen's infidelity eventually turned into her disappearance from the city and she would never been seen again - at least not alive. Lord Rak`Ashiir was seemingly devastated by his wife's disappearance and immediately had scouts deployed to search the surrounding area for any traces of her. He also hired mercenaries to venture into dangerous froglok territories in the event that she was kidnapped. But there were some accounts that Rak`Ashiir was more aware of this betrayal than most thought. Whether it was a facade or general concern, nothing would surface. Lord Rak`Ashiir would question the faith of his god Cazic-Thule - an action as a result of his wavering faith that started to become to the church whose funding was effectively reduced to nothing. Perhaps Lord Rak'Ashiir's wavering faith was set in motion by this betrayal.

Cazic-Thule wasn't amused by one of his followers being a non-believer and taking an entire city with him, so a clear message had to be sent. Cazic-Thule would send a minion to kidnap his daughter and banish her into eternal torment. This would seal the fate not only for Rak`Ashiir but for the entire city of Torsis. In pure defiance and even hopelessness, Rak`Ashiir would start to set in motion the complete collapse of the trade city's economy. At this point, Cazic-Thule had had enough and the same green mist that put an end to the former Iksar's oppressors, the Shissar, had come full circle and was deployed by the god of fear to obliterate the residents of Torsis.

The once glorious city of Torsis, now consumed by mist would have its residents replaced with their undead versions. The palace reavers and golems that were once assigned to protect the city were now left with no other directive than to destroy anything that would enter. Rak`Ashiir would also be conjured back into the city in spectral form but even more disturbing is that so did the queen. This was an indication that she never actually left the city after all. Considering the fact that Kirn's death out in Odus happened well before this event occurred, the mystery behind her disappearance starts to take on a whole new meaning and with Rak`Ashiir being at the center of it.

The following in-game books and timelines piece together the known history of Torsis, the City of Mist.

This following videos provide historical context and then a focused narrative of Torsis.
