Erudin is the home city of the Erudites, a sect of humans that long ago migrated from the known world to settle in an out of the way place and study the known and unknown. Now that they have returned to the world, their capital city is considered one of the finest collections of knowledge in all of Norrath.

Dangers

Although the High Men have earned a reputation as an aristocratic society, perhaps even snobbish at times, the city of Erudin poses little threat to most outsiders unless wrongfully provoked. However, Erudin is a peaceful city of goodly denizens that detest evil and they will strike down any of the dark persuasion on sight.

Benefits

The merchants of the city sell many goods, and since the High Men are scholars of unmatched repute and talent, many arcane scrolls and components may be bought here that the other cities of Norrath are lacking.

Traveling To and From

Erudin can be reached from the mainland by boat from the human city of Qeynos. This boat makes a brief stop in Erud's Crossing before arriving at Erudin itself. Traveling from Erudin to Qeynos requires a shuttle ride from the Erudin docks to the main boat which never stops itself in Erudin, rather, it is anchored a bit out at sea for a brief minute.

Inland, Erudin is bordered by the vast Toxxulia Forest where you will find Druid and Wizard portals. Passing through this forest leads to Paineel, and there is an unused dock that leads to the island of the Kerrans. There are also Druid and Wizard portals in the forest itself.

Lore

The following passage is written in the Book of Ages (see History_of_Norrath):

The Age of Enlightenment

A small, frail man of great intellect called Erud led this group, and he formed them into a council. They quickly became irritated, even disgusted, by their fellow man. Leaving a small network of spies behind, the remainder of Erud's followers fled the city of Qeynos and boarded a small fleet of ships. They sailed to the west and landed upon the barren coast of the island of Odus. The land was sparse and uninhabited and quite appealing to the council and their people. They quickly built a city of their own, dissimilar in almost every way to both Qeynos and Freeport, for it was almost entirely a towering castle. Erudin it was called, and within it the scribes and scholars, who called themselves High Men, gathered and analyzed reports, captured books and scrolls, and other artifacts brought to them by their spies. The first human mages since the Combine Empire were born – wizards, sorcerers, and enchanters occupied the great halls of Erudin and grew immensely in both power and knowledge. Thus began the Age of Enlightenment.
