Everquest: The Ruins of Kunark Jeff Butler (plot and script); Brad McQuaid (plot); The EverQuest Team (plot); Jim Lee (Pencils/Inks/Illustrations) ‎ Wildstorm Productions Paperback Tells the story of the capture of Fironia Vie which is how the first expansion began.

The original English-language EverQuest: The Ruins of Kunark released in 2002. It was intended to be the first in an ongoing series of standalone-story comics set in the EverQuest universe. It was followed by Transformation and... the realization that the crossover between MMORPG gamers and comic book enthusiasts wasn't actually as robust as DC had hoped. And that was the end of that.

In 2003, there was a licensed French republication by Albin Michel, Les ruines de Kunark, but by 2004, the idea of EverQuest as a comic book was pretty conclusively dead. The franchise itself was going through a hard time, too, as Gates of Discord was a deeply troubled expansion.

Then, seemingly out of nowhere, the book was produced as a German-language localized republication of the English original, this time produced by MG Publishing. The German version was an exclusive to the 2004 Erlangen Comic-Salon, and limited to a print run of 999 copies.

Everquest: Transformation Devin Grayson ‎ Wildstorm Comics 1 January 2002 Paperback ASIN ‏ : ‎ B0010Z1BAW ; DC/Wildstorm continued their well-intentioned effort to produce standalone stories in the EverQuest universe with Transformation, released in August 2002, about five months after Ruins of Kunark.

This one was produced without the direct involvement of Brad McQuaid or any of the other EverQuest franchise lore people, and more than anything, it just comes across as a book whose creators' hearts weren't really in it. Devin Grayson's writing is thin but unobjectionable. Philip Tan's interior art is actually quite nice, and there's nothing really amiss with Whilce Portacio's cover work. But it's hard to get excited about this book. Obviously, all three of them went on to bigger and better things.

This was the last EverQuest comic book released. DC determined, probably correctly, that there just wasn't enough overlap between players of their MMORPG and comic book readers. Also, I suspect they realized that it was harder to keep both writing and artwork on point to their existing lore. The franchise would have somewhat more success with novel tie-ins over the following few years.

Everquest: Accounting ‎ Wildstorm Productions Paperback This was a pack-in with the EverQuest Gold deluxe collector's tin. 50,000 tins were produced, and the run sold out. Under normal circumstances, a print run of 50,000 would not make for a difficult book to find. However, these went to people interested in the video game, not comic book collectors. The survival rate is very, very low. Additionally, condition is going to be a concern. The book was essentially loose in the tin with several other pack-ins, including a large and heavy figurine with a tendency to break loose from its bubble pack. After some searching,
Everquest Online Adventures: The Quest for Darkpaw Paperback This eight page comic was a promotional item used to advertise the short-lived PS2 spin-off title EverQuest Online Adventures. Like many video game promotional pieces, this one is pretty elusive.
