'''West Cabilis''' | '''West Cabilis''' |
Revision as of 23:39, 12 May 2023
Like the eastern half of the city, the western wing of Cabilis is young in its foundation. Much of its architecture is shared with the remnants of older structures that have fallen into the unforgiving arms of the moors that this city resides upon. Unlike its eastern sister, the west wing of Cabilis' construction is completed and there is no longer a need for froglok slaves, leaving a purity of exclusive Iksar population.
The west portion of Cabilis is home to the Tower of Death, a fearsome monument that houses the Necromancer cast of the Iksarian race. Within this tower, the Iksar continue the ancient and sacred tradition of their imperial ancestors in relative solitude from the bustling that consumes the eastern wing.
The eastern wing of the city houses the headquarters of the Crusaders, elite militia guards who answer to the absolute dominion of the Tower of Death's hierarchy.
The Crusaders play a vital part in counteracting the constant threats coming from the territories beyond the eastern walls - Warslik's Wood and the Lake of Ill Omen.
Both territories have proved to be of great interest and fascination to the Iksar of Cabilis, although such attention has inevitably aroused the opposition of the region's inhabitants. The goblins and giants of Warslik's Wood have, unpredictably, proven to be a force unto themselves, and the Sarnak of the Lake of Ill Omen are not to be underestimated in their hatred of their former Iksar masters. Many hatchling pupils have exited the gates to the east to never be heard from again, yet many have also found great success in these regions.[1]

Dangers
Like its eastern sister, the west wing of Cabilis is not welcoming of outsiders. It would be the final actions of a fool to cross the city gates of Cabilis without having earned the trust of the Iksar.[1]
Benefits
A few merchants sell various goods here, and training for necromancers is available. Some of the masters in the Tower of Death will send their hatchling apprentices into the wilds beyond the city gates to complete certain tasks. Upon completion of these tasks, the Iksar apprentice shall not only prove themselves worthy to remain a living member of the Iksar race, but shall be generously afforded the tools necessary to advance in its studies.[1]
Traveling To and From
There are three two-way routes into West Cabilis:
- Lake of Ill Omen from the southwest,
- Warsliks Woods from the northwest, and
- East Cabilis from the East part of the city via the canals
The paths leading in from outside the city are heavily guarded by stationary Troopers along with roaming Crusaders.
There is a single one-way route in West Cabilis:
- from the West Cabilis firepot in Timorous Deep.

Level of Monsters: 30 - 61
Types of Monsters: Iksar Shopkeepers, Troopers, Crusaders, Guildmasters, Necromancers, and Shadowknights
Notable NPC's: Harbinger Glosk, a forbidden scribe, Jondin, Keeper Bile, Izarod Fristan, Keeper Pain, Master Xydoz, Master Rixiz, Master Kyvix, an Iksar hermit
Factions
The following factions apply to residents within West Cabilis for which outsiders should be aware:
- Cabilis Residents (Merchants)
- Legion of Cabilis (Warriors)
- Crusaders of Greenmist (Shadow Knights)
- Brood of Kotiz (Necromancers)
- Swift Tails (Monks) - primarily only with the guards (Troopers)
- Scaled Mystics (Shaman) - primarily only with the guards (Troopers)
The vast majority of West Cabilis residents are on Legion of Cabilis and Brood of Kotiz faction, to include most shopkeepers and any residents within the Tower of Death. Crusaders (the roaming guards) are the only ones with Crusaders of Greenmist faction, but they also have Legion of Cabilis faction. A small minority of the shopkeepers have Cabilis Residents faction (in addition to Legion of Cabilis). Only the stationary guards (Troopers) have Swift Tails and Scaled Mystics faction, as well as the other factions on the list above except Brood of Kotiz.
Lore
If you are interested in reading the histories, a forbidden scribe (at /loc -107, 637) can be found in a small room near the canal going to Cabilis East, just around the corner from the merchant tent housing Jondin and Jaxxtz.
For a more detailed coverage of the histories, see Kunark lore.
Places of Interest
The Tower of Death
The most prominent feature of West Cabilis is the Tower of Death. It's the stronghold of the necromancers of the iksar people. Dark are the ways of the iksar necromancers named the Brood of Kotiz, who follow the dark teachings of the ancient necromancer, Kotiz. Do not tread upon their grounds if you are not one with their dark circle. Do so and you just may be their next experiment. All other iksar fear the necromancers and leave them alone, an arrangement that the necromancers are very happy with. Within their tower they perform experiments and strengthen their Art and, through that, all iksar. Merchants in this area owe fealty to the Tower and not to the Haggle Baron, so it is possible to find items here that the Haggle Baron doesn't believe in.
